Sesame Seed Tofu

So I realized that I’ve been posting a lot of sweets and desserts lately and I figured I would switch it up a bit! This sesame seed tofu sauce is one of my favourite marinates as it is quite simple to make and it can be used in so many kinds of dishes; including chicken for you meat lovers. Feel free to serve this grilled tofu with steamed veggies and rice, over a salad or just eat it as it is!


Sesame Seed Tofu
  • 1 lb. extra firm tofu
  • ½ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 T. dark sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 teas minced fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ cup sesame seeds
  1. Slice tofu and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, sugar and sesame seeds, stirring until well mixed. Pour a small amount of the mixture into a casserole dish or baking dish. Place all of the tofu into the dish in a single layer, then pour the remaining marinade over the tofu. Place the pan in the refrigerator and allow tofu to marinate for 4 hours to overnight, flipping the tofu once to twice to make sure that it evenly marinates.
  3. Lightly brush grill rack with oil. Place tofu on rack; cook, turning frequently until lightly browned on all sides, 12-15 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle tofu with toasted sesame seeds.
