Ontario Strawberries

Strawberry

Yesterday I had the pleasure of driving up to Milton to pick my very own freshly grown Ontario strawberries. I ended up meeting a very genuine and lovely couple named Glen & Rose who offered to take some photos of me for my blog. We were lucky as the sun was shining all day long; despite the chance of thundershowers the weather guys were calling for!

Summer has just begun and if there is one thing I would like to suggest for people do this summer it is definitely checking out your local farmer markets or picking your own vegetables and fruits like I did yesterday! It allows you to become more aware of where your food is actually coming from and the amount of people and work that goes in to growing them. One of the things I loved most about yesterday was talking directly to the farmers and other pickers that were there. A lot of them were families that have been doing this year to year as well as chefs from local restaurants in the area and couples; all out there to enjoy the sunny day and eat deliciously fresh strawberries! I also loved hearing the variety of recipes ideas floating around. Many of the people were picking strawberries for homemade jam, tasty desserts and some just to eat them on their own. On that note I wanted to make to share with you a delicious Strawberry inspired smoothie I had for breakfast this morning.

Hey Rachel, it’s Patrick from Whole Foods, we met earlier today and you piqued my curiousity
when you mentioned the mint-cocoa leaves; I had to look at your blog because I was intrigued
and because I’m a bit of a foodie myself.
I must say that after only a cursory glance at your blog, I LOVE it. You have some very
inspiring recipes and even some that I have discovered myself on my food journey; I especially
liked the mind map of honey and it’s many benefits.
It was really great to meet you and I hope all went well with the ice cream cake!
    Talk to you soon!
